After we revealed the key to opening the door, many potential inductees started making their way to a city in America for the Ring of Dishonor induction ceremony on Wednesday, February 16. More clues were revealed in this hint post and ARGNet's Q&A interview on Saturday.
At the gathering, we will celebrate the release of a book about one of our own, by one of our own. And we will induct five people as charter members of the Ring of Dishonor—assuming any of them can complete our entrance exam.
Those members will gain the very rare charter member rings, shown here. These Moebius strip rings were crafted and 3D-printed in metal by Shapeways at Wired's bequest. The rings were designed by puzzlemaster Eric Harshbarger. As you can see if you click on the image at right, Harshbarger has "signed" the rings in a devilish manner. We in the Ring of Dishonor approve of that sort of thing.
So how can you get one? If you're at the induction ceremony, you will have a chance to get one of five given away there, by completing the rigorous tests we give all new members. But if not, don't fret. During the induction ceremony, at approximately 6:30 pm on Wednesday, February 16, we will run a similar but not identical exam on this site. The first person to complete the online exam correctly will gain a charter member ring for his or her very own. Conditions for that exam will be posted on the day of the event.
Now, we are aware that some of you are still struggling to get to the door and secure the all-important password for entrance. Perhaps this little piece of advice from me will help you with that second name. You'll need to send an email to that name at wired.com to get the password.
