While towering actor Peter Mayhew didn’t need to physically inhabit Chewbacca’s instantly recognizable hairsuit for the popular CGI series, he was asked by Lucasfilm to lend his timeless growl to the rendering.
“[Supervising director] Dave Filoni said my participation in creating Chewie for the series was essential,” Mayhew said in a press release. “He told his artists to study the way I walk, my mannerisms and demeanor … and thought it would be nice to get a small sample of my voice mixed in.”
The nostalgic repurposing of Chewbacca generates the obvious question: Which other Star Wars characters does Lucasfilm have on tap for animated cameos? A young hotshot Han Solo? A wet-behind-the-ears Wedge? Let us know in the comments section below who you’d like to see in future episodes.
