  • Alexandra Siy experienced The Perfect Storm, which involved dog sledding with Ruby and her son, when during a nighttime blizzard in Boulder, a pack of coyotes ran across the trail and a woman screamed nearby (not to be confused with The Shining).
  • Brigid has been live streaming some of her painting sessions. She has really been enjoying the interaction with the audience and answering some great questions about art, the creative process, and the specifics of digital painting.
  • This week is a flurry of activity for Rebecca Angel, as her new band, The Subs, will be performing at Arisia in Boston. She's been busy with geek rock fun: rehearsing, making CDs, designing stickers, making travel plans. If anyone is going to be there, check them out on Sunday at noon!
  • Jess got her first e-reader, a Kobo, and is making a massive pile of books that can be gotten rid of now that they are all available for free on e-readers.
  • JennT's family grew one furry member this week. She and her daughter rescued a black Maine Coon cat from a local veterinarian shelter. He is now named Fergus (originally named Argyle, but the name presented pronunciation issues for her daughter) and joins JennT's other rescue kitty, Phoebe, in ruling the house. If you and your family would like to adopt your own rescue kitty, contact your local humane society or animal shelter. Check for a local ASPCA chapter here.
  • GeekMom Judy had one huge happy thing and one huge sad thing happen this week. Her favorite football team's record setting game was accidentally erased from the DVR before she could see it. Her sadness lifted, however, when her oldest geekson got the acceptance letter to his top college of choice! She's happy the college essay process actually worked out for her boy.
  • Laura Grace Weldon went too far on Errant Parent. This morning, she is trying to behave herself during a live Unplugged Mom interview.
  • Corrina was cooped up with all four kids and a restless husband for over 24 hours. And this was the good part of the week, as the next day, a hand specialist put her right hand in a cast to immobilize a thumb to rest badly strained ligaments. She is now going to try to be left-handed for three weeks.
  • Ellen Henderson has been reading (and enjoying!) Lisa Brackmann's Rock Paper Tiger, a thriller that incorporates MMORPGs into its suspenseful plot. The novel's setting, modern-day China, is another fascinating element.
  • Amy has been designing mobile apps that teach science with science fiction. She recently entered the Cooney Prize National STEM Video Game Challenge and needs your vote in the People's Choice Award. Vote for Sci-Heroes Save the Day so she can bring this superhero app to life!
  • Cathe will be enriching her life through art this weekend. First she will help put up a new exhibit, featuring the photography of Jodi Tripp, at a local restaurant called DuckTales. Then, Cathe will be building her own photography skills by attending a demonstration, hosted by artist Linda Aman, on how to photograph your artwork.
  • R. L. LaFevers had a chance to attend ALA Midwinter in San Diego this weekend. Over 500,000 square feet filled with thousand of books + thousands of librarians = Geek Heaven!
