Bummed that you didn't get a copy of Super Mario All-Stars? Ready to pay three times the retail price on eBay?
Hold your mushrooms. Nintendo is looking into a reprint of the limited-edition Wii game.
"We are gratified by the consumer response to this limited-edition product, which we created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game on NES," Nintendo public relations director Marc Franklin told Wired.com via email on Friday. "Because of the strong response, we are exploring the option of bringing this item back at a later date."
"Until that decision is made, consumers should check with retailers, as supplies will vary by store," Franklin said.
Super Mario All-Stars is a Wii version of the classic 1993 Super Nintendo release, which consisted of upgraded versions of the first four Mario titles. The $30 package also includes a booklet about Mario's history and an audio CD full of Mario music.
Released in North America on December 12, Super Mario All-Stars quickly sold out of many stores. Wired.com's spot checks of stores in New York City in late December turned up zero copies of the game (and lots of laughs from store clerks when we asked about it).
On eBay, the $30 game now regularly fetches as much as $80.
