More than 80,000 video diaries were submitted to Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald for inclusion in his Life in a Day film, which captures an international kaleidoscope of events that took place on a single day last summer.

Now, 26 key contributors to Macdonald's ambitious crowd-sourced documentary will be flown to Park City, Utah, this month to attend the movie's Sundance Film Festival world premiere.

"World" is the operative word here. Credited as "co-directors," Life in a Day's DIY creators come from Nepal, Indonesia, Russia, Egypt, Peru, Spain and Naperville, Illinois, among other far-flung spots.

Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland), producer Ridley Scott and their team combed through 4,500 hours of footage before arriving at the final cut. "Every day we felt like we were seeing 20 different possible films as we got insights into so many people's lives," Macdonald said in a statement. The end result "really gives you a flavor of what it was like to be alive on 24th July 2010."

Viewers can watch the streaming debut of Life in a Day Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. Pacific on the lifeinaday YouTube channel. The webcast, subtitled in 25 languages, will be followed later this year by a limited theatrical release.
