Ok, technically it is not a working robot, but it plays one in the movies. In the continuing saga of trying to find Star Wars party decor from the original three movies (the only three in my opinion, but that is another post), I sat down and made up a list of decor for me to craft. Yes, craft. I did find some odds and ends on eBay, but let's just say graphic printing has come a *long *way since the 1980's.

So being the crafter that I am, I got busy planning how I would decorate. One of the things on my list was to make an R2D2. I searched around for some good pictures of R2, picked up a $4 trash can at Walmart, some red, blue, and silver paint, and got to work. Using the images below, I drew the design on in pencil first and then traced the blue parts in blue sharpie and the white parts in silver. I used acrylic paint and painted in all his colored spots. The paint seems to scratch off if you aren't careful so I may need to seal it somehow. I didn't get the design exactly and had to add a few boxes here and there, but you can definitely tell who it is. I would guess it took about eight hours or so over the last two days to complete, but it turned out fantastic! As an added bonus, when the little fangirl's party is over, she can use it as a trash can or to carry secret Rebel messages to her brother.
