Yes, Power Balance is stupid. We all see that. Well, WE see that, but obviously there are many people out there not so sure. How does this stuff sell so well?
Oh, you have never heard of Power Balance? Here is the short scoop. Basically, it is a rubber band bracelet that has a super special hologram chip in there. This chip enhances and boosts your own body’s natural frequencies and makes you awesome. More endurance, more strength, more balance. At least that is the claim. This is the astrology of the sports world. Actually, I wonder what would happen if ESPN Sport Science did a segment on the Power Balance.
Here are some great posts and videos that look at Power Balance (and things that are the same – like iRenew).
First, my post. How does the balance demo trick work? The short answer – torque. Video included in that post.
Ethan over at Starts with a Bang has a nice summary of the Power Balance bracelet and the placebo effect. There is also a link to this awesome video of Dominique Dawes doing some simple tests on the Power Balance.
This is a nice post from Bad Astronomy: When a University helps promote nonsense. In of itself, it has lots of links. But there are also some great videos testing the Power Balance. I will embed them below.
Here is ESPN’s Mark Schwarz (but not Sport Science) looking at the Power Balance.
Some (maybe Australian) news channel looking at the Power Balance.
There, that should keep you busy.
