More than 1,800 libraries are going to celebrate National Gaming Day on Saturday November 13, 2010. Although this is the American Library Association’s third annual National Gaming Day, there are libraries all over North and South America, as well as Europe and Pakistan, celebrating. They are hoping to break last year’s record of more than 31,000 people playing games on the same day. To see if there is an event near you, check out the map of participating libraries.
Librarians will be offering both board games for local play and video games so that players can compete with kids across the country and around the world. Why play games at a library? Because a library is no longer a place of just books. It is a place to interact with peers and friends of all ages; a place to learn and enjoy; a place to find not only your favorite book, but your favorite movie; a place to feel safe.
If you want to get a head start for next year you can look up past Gaming Day events or look up examples of gaming programs at other libraries.
