So Long, Cylon: Syfy Cancels Caprica

Caprica, the religion-steeped Battlestar Galactica prequel that showed promise but failed to find an audience, has been canceled by Syfy.

"We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series," Mark Stern, the cable channel's programming chief, told The Live Feed. "Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season."

Series standout Alessandra Torresani, who played the teen whose mind was uploaded into a prototype Cylon in the show, took to Twitter to respond to Wednesday's announcement.

"It's a very sad day ... time for mama cylon to go cry a river!" the actress tweeted. "It's OK. I have you lil cylons to make me smile!"

Caprica "will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, Nov. 2," Syfy said in a statement. "These final five episodes of the season will be rescheduled to air at a to-be-announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series."

It's not all bad news for Galactica fans, however: Syfy gave the green light last week to a pilot called Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, which Stern described as "very much an action-adventure, war series."
