I thought the best way to reveal my GeekMom secret origins would be to give you Key Moments in My Geek Biography. These are the moments that helped to define the geek and mom I am today.

1973 - Born into a non-geek family, but am destined to become a bespectacled and geeky middle child wandering the suburbs of Chicago.

1979 - Baby brother is born, securing a childhood filled with helping him transform his Transformers, building with his Lego bricks, and rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser's evil clutches.

1981 - Enter 3rd grade, a pivotal year in school. Stay after school to learn how to multiply fractions before everyone else, and get complimented by classmates on my drawings of spaceship cars.

1982 - Santa gives us an Atari. Spend countless hours indoors conquering the likes of Space Invaders, Pitfall, and Missile Command.

1983 - Santa gives me an IBM computer. Slump over it all of Christmas break programming a snow scene that plays Christmas carols in BASIC.

1984-1987 - The dark Middle School ages. Look the part of geek when owning a Swatch is about all I'm able to muster as a nod to current fashion.

1990 - Meet future GeekHusband, a student down the road at the Illinois Math and Science Academy.

1991-1996 - College and its aftermath. Discover feminism and get into a lot of debates.

1997 - Move to New York City for graduate school, beginning transformation into EastCoastLiberalUrbanGeek. Get the first of many Apple computers, a Mac Centris.

1999 - Get temp job working on a Clifford the Big Red Dog CD-ROM, and immediately know that I want my career to be in kids' media.

2005 - Daughter is born. Blossoms over five years into a science-loving GeekGirl.

2008 - Start my kids' media blog, Media Macaroni, ensuring I'll never read a grown-up book or play a grown-up video game ever again.

2010 - Son is born. Future geek? Only time will tell. Get iPad for Mother's Day. Begin contributing to GeekMom, fully embracing my inner (and outer) geek.
