The wait is over: The fifth and final character class for Diablo III is the Demon Hunter, Blizzard said Friday at its annual BlizzCon convention.

Demon Hunter joins the already-announced Monk, Barbarian, Wizard, and Witch Doctor character classes in the fantasy action role-playing game, which Blizzard will release at some unspecified point in the future.

The new character was described by Blizzard as a "fanatical warrior sworn to a single purpose: the destruction of the creatures of the Burning Hells." As a sort of spiritual successor to Diablo II's Amazon, the Demon Hunter will dual-wield crossbows and have access to a variety of projectile weapons like grenades, knives, and bolas.

Like the Amazon, the Demon Hunter will be able to infuse magic into shots to cripple opponents in a variety of ways. Some of the new class's abilities include Molten Arrow, a fire-infused projectile attack, and Entangling Shot, which allows the Demon Hunter to slow down enemies from afar.

At BlizzCon, the company also pulled back the curtain on Diablo III's multiplayer battle arenas, in which players will be able to slaughter one another in team-based matches. Using the character you've built up and equipped in single-player or co-op modes, you can earn points, achievements, and rankings in gladiatorial matches.

Combining Diablo II's hack-n-slash loot grinding with Team Fortress style player-versus-player team matches is the videogame equivalent of blending nicotine and crack cocaine. So we're kinda looking forward to Diablo III.
