Barbie may not be the first icon that comes to mind when you think of modern GeekMoms. But trust me on this, the blonde fashion doll has been inspiring geeks of the creative arts for generations. Her latest collaboration shows just how true this is!

Back in March Mattel announced the iconic doll would be teaming up with AMC and the costume creator of the hit show Mad Men. Costumer Jane Bryant worked with Mattel to create a collectible line of Mad Men dolls for the latest Barbie Collection. In this video Janie Bryant and other designers who worked on the project talk about hours spent as children in their rooms, designing clothes for their Barbies. Fully realized, the dolls are now featured in the latest Barbie catalog, and are available for purchase on the website.

I know of many seamstresses, costumers and fashion designers who have similar stories of Barbie inspiration, and consequently a deep love of all things revolving around the doll and her brand. Couple this with the fervent devotion that many costume geeks have for Mad Men, and you've got a combination more intoxicating then Joan Halloway's best martini. Head on over to Barbie to meet the collection and don't forget to check out the amazing photos from the Barbie Mad Men photography contest!

Oh and while your there, check out the Twilight dolls. If you've got a tween girl in the house with a birthday coming up. These will cover it.
