Jack White has created the turducken of vinyl records. For the release of "Blue Blood Blues," the new single by his band The Dead Weather, the rock demi-god has invented the Triple Decker Record – a 7-inch disc that comes inside a 12-inch record.
White demonstrates the technology in the vintage-looking infomercial embedded above. Watch as he plays the 12-inch, then uses a Swiss army knife to crack it open, pulls out the 7-inch and gets ready to play an unreleased mystery track. Complicated, yes, but it's just one of the many mind games Third Man Records likes to play, said White, the label's founder.
Third Man Records – a one-stop record label, record store and production house – operates under the motto, "Your turntable's not dead." The company already has dreamed up several ways to invigorate vinyl, including glow-in-the-dark records and a peach-scented Karen Elson LP.
Fight for your Triple Decker Record this Friday – only 300 are available, through mail order and at select record stores (including the Third Man Records shop in Nashville).
