RiffTrax fans get a chance to hear their own wisecracks articulated by Michael J. Nelson, Kevin "Tom Servo" Murphy and Bill "Crow T. Robot" Corbett when the peanut-gallery comedians make fun of Reefer Madness later this month.
The guys, slated to live-skewer the 1936 doper-beware classic during an Aug. 19 satellite-broadcast screening, are soliciting funny bits via their Toke of Genius contest. Just watch clips from the movie, roll your own jokes and e-mail them in. Winners snag a RiffTrax Swag Bag and get their names featured on-screen.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 spinoff RiffTrax shifted gears last summer by mocking good films like Casino Royale and The Dark Knight. Unloading on cornball marijuana melodrama Reefer Madness marks a return to the troupe's familiar B-movie stomping grounds.
RiffTrax Live: Reefer Madness will originate at California Center for the Arts and be broadcast via satellite to 500 movie theaters nationwide on Aug. 19 (live at 8 p.m. Eastern/tape-delayed at 8 p.m. Pacific). Tickets are available through Fathom Events. In an e-mail to Wired.com, the RiffTrax organization offered to give away the custom-engraved iPad pictured above as a prize "if ticket sales reach a certain plateau."
