As he finalizes Tron: Legacy for December release, director Joseph Kosinski on Thursday officially snagged the greenlight for his next project: With backing from Disney, he will direct a movie based on the sci-fi illustrated novel Oblivion.
The premise: In the future, alien scavengers prowl Earth's toxic ruins. When drone repairman Jak discovers a woman in a crash-landed pod, he's forced to question everything he knows.
The 128-page book includes more than 40 spookily evocative landscape illustrations by 27-year-old Swedish artist Andree Wallin. Kosinski created Oblivion with Rex Mundi and Arvid Nelson for Radical Publishing, which plans to release the graphic novel next summer.
Barry Levine, the Radical president who will serve as the film's producer, said in a press release: "Joe had such a clear vision of the Oblivion landscape and universe. Add to that Joe's successful partnership with Disney on Tron: Legacy, and you have all the ingredients for a phenomenal action/adventure film."
