Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, a new MMO from Sony Online Entertainment, entered public beta testing Friday.

Those interested in giving the game a spin can apply for a beta code at the official Clone Wars Adventures website.

I played some of the game prior to E3. It is a far cry from Star Wars: The Old Republic, which aims to duplicate the scope and scale of World of Warcraft.

Instead, Clone Wars Adventures is a collection of Star Wars mini-games glued together with a social hub where character avatars can interact. The game is free to play, but for a $6 monthly fee wannabe Jedi will gain access to additional content. The game will also feature microtransactions allowing players to spend Sony's "Station Cash" currency on virtual items.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures is scheduled to launch September 15.
