Joss Whedon's prematurely mothballed space Western Firefly continues to pop up on the cultural radar. The latest blip: supergeek Patton Oswalt's new comic based on the show's characters, Serenity: Float Out.
Launching Wednesday from Dark Horse Comics, it features Hoban "Wash" Washburne, Firefly's goofy but talented pilot of the good ship Serenity.
The comic follows the new trailer for Firefly fan film Browncoats: Redemption, which landed last week. Sneak-peeking on the convention circuit all summer, the feature-length homage was created by and for fans of the cancelled sci-fi series. The idea met mixed reactions after we spoke with director Michael Dougherty in May, a minor blowback that might be soothed by the film's new, longer trailer.
Check out preview panels from Serenity: Float Out and watch the new Browncoats: Redemption trailer below. Then let us know in the comments section if the official and unofficial fan fictions are shinier than Inara Serra.
