What, did you think Kratos was done slaughtering the gods of Olympus? Ha ha! He will live as long as there are minor deities to tenderize like so many holy cube steaks.
Sony said Tuesday that it will release God of War: Ghost of Sparta for the PSP later this year. The game's plot takes place between the first two God of War games, filling in even more of Kratos' backstory that you didn't know you needed to hear about, like one time when Kratos was at band camp.
The previous PSP entry in the series, Chains of Olympus, is generally considered to be one of the best games on the portable system, although it's a watered-down version of the console games.
Scattered observations:
- The game will be developed by Ready at Dawn Studios, who said this following the launch of Chains of Olympus:
Sony then marked the dev kits "Return to Sender," I guess?
- From the press release: "Providing over 25% more gameplay, God of War: Ghost of Sparta will feature fluid, life-like characters, a robust weapon system, new magical powers, weapons and navigational abilities, many more enemies on screen, and a greater number of boss encounters."
Have you ever heard that formulation – "over 25% more gameplay" – before? I never have, and I read a fair number of (too many) press releases. I picture an infomercial pitchman, of course, with a British accent, using Ghost of Sparta to make carrot juice.
Also, when your last game was just under 5 hours, 25% more gameplay = 1:15.
Also, what's up with "navigational abilities," up there? Since when does Kratos need to navigate anywhere? He needs a mini-map like Super Mario Bros. needs one.
Yes, I know I said it was time to stop making God of War games. And no, I didn't know Sony was planning on doing two in one year.
