Activision is taking direct aim at cutesy kart-racing games with the commercial for Blur.
Wired.com has an exclusive look at the first TV spot for the racing game, which will be released on May 25 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The hilarious spot fires a shot across the bow of Mario Kart, featuring a character in a happy sunshine racing game that longs to break free and race realistic cars.
In the second spot, the character tries to escape the saccharine prison. Will he succeed? No. (A still from that spot appears above.)
The spots will premiere this Saturday in two high-profile places — the finale of Lost and the NBA finals. They’re created by Droga 5, the creative team behind 2008’s “Bike Hero” viral video.
