First Adjustment Bureau Trailer: Matt Damon Meets Weird Men in Hats

The trailer for Matt Damon’s upcoming thriller The Adjustment Bureau starts out looking like a glossy romantic comedy but soon gets a serious case of Fringe -style paranoia as mysterious men in hats explain their mission.

The movie is based on Philip K. Dick’s sci-fi short story “Adjustment Team,” so you know it’s bound to get trippy at some point. Sure enough, the Adjustment Bureau trailer delivers a straight-ahead set-up before taking a left turn into wormhole land.

Damon’s New York politician looks good in a fedora while his co-star, Emily Blunt, makes it work as the dancer he accidentally bumps into. The clip (embedded above) boasts an urbane Hitchcockian look from director George Nolfi. Author of Damon’s The Bourne Ultimatum script, Nolfi might just deliver a creepy, classy production underscored by head-scratching plot twists. Originally slated for a July 30 release, The Adjustment Bureau has been bumped by Universal Studios to Sept. 17.
