Apparently ascribing to the "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" theory of car sales, Volvo has entered an all-new S60 in the Belgian Touring Car Series (BTCS), an endurance challenge taking place over the spring and summer.

So far the strategy seems to be working, and the Volvo hasn't even raced yet.

The car was featured on the front of the BTCS webpage, which gushed after yesterday's test day at Circuit Zolder that "eyecatcher number one was obviously the all-new Volvo S60 Silhouette," a car that appeared "beautiful in red and blue livery."

While the car bears some outward resemblance to the all-new, all-naughty S60, the similarity ends under the hood. The Silhouette features a BTCS-regulation tubular frame, rear-wheel drive and a mid-mounted 410 hp V6. We doubt your local Volvo dealer will upgrade you to the 12" x 18" rear tires featured on the Silhouette, but we are sure some hoon is going to glue a giant spoiler on his own sedan.

Though the car company has passed from Swedish to American to Chinese ownership, Volvo has as much Belgian heritage as moules frites. "Volvo and the all-new S60 have a special place in the people's hearts here as several Volvo models, including the new S60, are built in Belgium at the Volvo Cars Ghent plant," Bart Crols, Volvo Cars Belgium Managing Director, told World Car Fans.
