Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Xanax) became an unexpected YouTube star yesterday when he suggested – with a straight face – that the island of Guam might "tip over and capsize" because of a anticipated troop build-up.
Adm. Robert Willard, head of U.S. Pacific Command, gets points for not cracking up. "We don't anticipate that," he replied.
Obviously, this is what C-Span was invented for. In a statement released yesterday, Johnson said: "The subtle humor of this obviously metaphorical reference to a ship capsizing illustrated my concern about the impact of the planned military buildup on this small tropical island." I'm totally using that line, next time I shoot my mouth off: Just a metaphor, honest!
