Wannabe-racers spend cash putting stickers and fake air intakes on their cars trying to make them look faster, so why not spend $2.99 at the app store to make your car sound faster?

The first app from the folks at Appartisan, Instant Supercar turns your '89 Corolla, bus ride to work or walk to the kitchen into an audio doppelganger of a trip in a Nissan GT-R or Porsche 911.

Wanting that supercar sound for a subway-ride price, the engineers at Appartisan painstakingly matched the sounds of various vehicles to speeds detected by the iPhone.

Or, as they put it on their tongue-in-cheek website, "Appartisan's crack staff of audio engineers spent countless hours wiring supercars with advanced microphones and driving around really fast all so you could impress your girlfriend. It was awesome."

Strangely, our significant others are not impressed that we're running around the house with headphones on, shaking our iPhones and trying to rev our virtual Aston Martins.
