In the market for a top-of-the-line PC processor? Consider spending a little more and you'll help benefit the Child's Play charity.
Jerry Holkins, one of the creators of the Penny Arcade comic strip, said Tuesday that proceeds from an eBay auction for a high-end Intel processor would benefit Child's Play.
Child's Play is a charity organization founded by Penny Arcade. In 2009, gamers contributing to Child's Play donated $1,780,870 worth of toys, games and movies to children's hospitals.
The story behind the auction paints a good picture of the vibe at the Penny Arcade Expo, an annual gaming convention that takes place in Boston and Seattle. Holkins and company tried to give the chip away to a fan at PAX East, but the fan immediately refused the thousand-dollar gift, insisting that they use the pricey bit of computer hardware for charity.
