What's next for the Battlestar Galactica universe? When Syfy execs said earlier this month they were considering another BSG-branded adventure in addition to birth-of-the-'bot prequel Caprica, high school senior James Doyle took matters into his own hand and compiled a proof-of-concept trailer for a speculative series he dubbed The Twelve Colonies.
"The first thought that came to mind as to where they would go with that spinoff was that massive Cylon war that's only shown briefly in Razor," Doyle told Wired.com in an e-mail interview. "There are so many storytelling opportunities with that setting in particular. It also answers the criticisms that a lot of fans have with Caprica: That there's not enough overall action."
Doyle, who lives near Palm Springs, California, assembled the trailer from BSG assets on a computer he built himself. "The final product is definitely not perfect," he said, "as the cast credits aren't in the same font as BSG's and some of the clips in the intro show off technologies that shouldn't exist in Caprica's time frame because I had to use BSG's The Plan for a few clips."
Doyle, aka YouTube user Darthatton, adds: "These might sound like minor details but [they are] relatively large ones to BSG fans, who are obviously my target audience for this vid in particular."
