Nerds' favorite musicians Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot and more will headline PAX East in Boston, the show's organizers announced today.
PAX East is a three-day gaming convention, organized by the webcomic empire Penny Arcade, that will take place in Boston from March 26-28. Nightly concerts will cap off each day's festivities, which will include tons of game playing, panels featuring industry insiders and an exhibition hall full of game demos and swag.
Companies on the show floor inlcude Dell, EA, Harmonix, Microsoft, Nintendo, NVIDIA, Rockstar Games, Sega, The Behemoth, Turbine, Twisted Pixel Games, Ubisoft and Wizards of the Coast.
Consider whatever fears we had that the show floor might suffer because of distance from Seattle and San Francisco assuaged. That said, I hope this list of gaming heavy hitters will be supplemented by smaller east coast gaming concerns. One of the highlights of the PAX Seattle show floor in years past has been seeing local table-top outfits like Privateer Press alongside booths for Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead 2.
The short list of musical acts features many convention veterans. Anamanaguchi, Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot, Metroid Metal, Paul and Storm, Protomen and The Video Game Orchestra will perform.
I'd like to see PAX expand its musical schedule. These regulars are great, but more time given to chiptunes and remix artists like Team Teamwork would go a long way towards broadening the musical horizons of gamers. Coulton is cool, but lets not make him geekdom's Phish.
Tickets for PAX East will sell out, organizers warn. Buy now or cry later.
