After lower-than expected sales of music games in 2009, Activision Blizzard will release just two games in the Hero franchise in the second half of 2010, the publisher said Wednesday.
Activision will release a new Guitar Hero and DJ Hero 2 later this year, company executives said in a conference call with investors. It will not release any PlayStation 2 versions of the games, nor any full-band instrument bundles like Band Hero.
Last year, Activision released 25 Hero SKUs; this year, it will release less than 10.
During the call, Activision talked about the rest of its 2010 lineup, which it said will include new entries in the Call of Duty, 007, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk Ride and True Crime series, plus new franchises Blur and Singularity. Blizzard's StarCraft II and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm are also slated for this year.
