Child's Play Charity raised more than $1.7 million worth of games, toys and other donations for children's hospitals in 2009, the organization said last week.
Child's Play, founded by Penny Arcade creators Jerry “Tycho” Holkins and Mike "Gabe" Krahulik, has raised more than $6.7 million in cash, toys and games since 2003.
Some donations were collected through special events. The folks at Desert Bus For Hope played a terrible, unreleased Penn & Teller game for five days straight raising $139,000 fo the cause.
An annual gala dinner and auction held in Seattle gathered just under $200,000 by offering one-of-a-kind prizes. The Ümloud! charity event organized in part by Game|Life editor Chris Kohler pitched $7,000 into the Child's Play bucket.
