Duncan Jones' critically acclaimed outer-space character study *Moon *picked up trophies Sunday when the British Independent Film Awards honored the movie and its director in the outstanding debut categories.
Other winners included John Lennon bio-pic Nowhere Boy, which picked up six nominations and earned Anne-Marie Duff a victory in the supporting actress competition. Tom Hardy, expected to star in the new Mad Max sequel, won the Best Actor trophy for his portrait of an insane inmate in the fact-based Bronson.
Moon, described by Wired.com as a masterful think piece, stands in good company. Last year's big winner at the annual U.K. indie love-in: Slumdog Millionaire.
