iBone, of course. Duh.

I moderated a panel on the future of music games at the SF MusicTech summit earlier this week, and made some off-hand joke about Trombone Hero. And up comes an audience member to tell me that he has developed that very thing, an app called iBone that lets you solo on a virtual horn.

An array of note buttons let you move your finger to mimic the motion of the slide trombone, and the note that comes out is the note your finger is under. You can wiggle your finger to bend the notes. Tilting the iPhone raises or lowers the volume.

What's more, an Elite Beat Agents style game mode shows you with timed circles which notes to hit for a few public-domain songs that are included with the app, like "Greensleeves"* *and "Aura Lee."

Though its uses are cleary limited, iBone is an interesting experimental blend of gameplay and utility.
