A new spoof video imagines just how far director James Cameron might have gone to get visual effects for his $300 million sci-fi epic Avatar.
LandlineTV's James Cameron Joneses for Effects depicts an actor in a white wig throwing a fit when worried studio execs won't cough up $30 million to buy more CGI sequences for a movie.
Distraught as a junkie, the director rifles through his wife's jewelry drawer, then turns to someone who looks vaguely like Michael Bay for the money he needs to finish the film.
Landline trio Jared Neumark, Saj Pothiawala and Paul Briganti, who previously made fun of Where the Wild Things Are and Microsoft TV ads, were previously forced to take down a video mocking DirecTV's dead celebrity commercials.
But the LandlineTV crew doesn't expect to hear from lawyers for Avatar distributor 20th Century Fox. Describing the repurposed footage downloaded from Avatar's online trailer, Neumark told Wired.com: "Technically it's licensed material to Fox, but most movie houses realize videos like these, especially if they get well-circulated, serve as free marketing."
