Doctor Who celebrates its 46th anniversary Monday, and this year will see big changes for the sci-fi franchise as David Tennant leaves the show behind — allowing Matt Smith to step into the role.
U.K. viewers watching the BBC's "Children in Need" Telethon caught the opening minutes of Who's Christmas special (and the first half of Tennant's swan song), "The End of Time." There wasn't much revealed. Basically, The Doctor knows he's had it — or will snuff it soon. But he does discover the threat facing him in his final days.
Meanwhile, we include the fan video above from YouTube simply because it's wonderfully random, yet extremely well done. It's a mashup from TardisTimegirl featuring Doctor Who motifs intercut with scenarios from 2001: A Space Odyssey. While the clip ends with a disturbingly naked Matt Smith, it does make more sense than 2001 every did.
