To promote the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on DVD this Tuesday, NASCAR met up with the "more than meets the eye" crew at the 50th running of the NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Driver Ryan Newman's car was adorned with the proud blue/red face of Optimus Prime, while the villainous, four-time Sprint Cup Series Champion Jeff Gordon teamed with Megatron. Transformers director Michael Bay (pictured) was on hand to drive the official pace car. For the record, Jimmie Johnson won the race -- and Megatron/Gordon finished ahead of their virtuous opponents.

This reporter couldn't be the only observer who was disappointed due to the event's false advertising. When you tell me NASCAR drivers are going to ride Optimus Prime and Megatron to hype a DVD, I want to see terrified men in fire suits screaming in terror while they're splayed, piggyback, high atop 20-foot robots jostling down the straightaway.

Some say this is impossible. I dare to dream.
