Geeks and Nerds Congregate! Nerd Invasion is Coming!

Nerd Invasion is coming. Are you prepared? Is Pensacola, FL prepared? I dig into a nerdy foxhole and find out all I can about Nerd Invasion from Jason at Nerdrockstar.com so we all can be prepared.

Last month we alerted Pensacola, FL that it may want to brace itself for the onslaught of nerds and geeks that will be descending on the panhandle for Nerd Invasion on November 6th & 7th. To sum, it's going to include some awesome nerdcore acts, CCG and console tournaments and a special at-dawn showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. At least, that's what we knew then. What exactly do we know now?

We know that the nerdcore music lineup is simply amazing. It includes the likes of Schaffer the Dark Lord, Krondor Krew, Marc With a C, Dual Core, Scrub Club, Zealous 1 and just added - Shael Riley. In addition to your run of the mill gaming tournaments, there is going to be an 8-bit Nintendo Tourney, Miss Poindexter '09 competition, tons of cosplay contests, more gaming, vendors and the grand world premiere of George Clinton's (yes, the king of funk) brand new sci-fi show entitled "George Clinton's Gongafunkadine." It involves robots, puppets and bringing funk to the universe. Could you really ask for anything more? Oh yeah, and all this - for $10.

Nerd Invasion is a collaborative effort between Florida native online clothier NerdRockstar and Kansas’s foremost not-for-profit entertainment company Scrub Club. In order to find out more, I had to go right to the nerdy source. When I was done at the comic book store, I emailed Jason at NerdRockstar for some answers and some freaking awesome news. Jason expressed his problem with illiteracy, so I was forced to receive answers from his cyborg typing slave.

Jason, is this event going to be wicked awesome or what?

Nerd Invasion is going to be ridiculous. It is safe to say that this will be the coolest thing ever to happen in Pensacola since Tristan De Luna showed up in search of the Fountain of Youth. By the way, we found the fountain of youth, it is nerdcore hip hop.

Ten Dollar tickets, that's quite a deal. How many kidneys did you sell to afford that low price point?

I can only speak for myself, but both of them. I find that nano pollutant handlers do a much more efficient job than an organic kidney. So as I didn't need the kidneys anymore. I figure why not...in the name of Science. Also, we had a lot of interest in this happening. So a good group of people, fans, sponsors, undead, and artists all pulled together to make this awesome and affordable. So affordable that you should offer to buy 10 of your friends tickets to the event and then negotiate each one of them paying your way into a different con. This will work out extremely well in your favor.

Tell us a bit about the venue and where exactly the dark corners are. You know, for making out.

The Silver Screen is the bomb. It is an old Pensacola landmark. Used to be called "Cinema Tavern" (seriously) but that name gave away the hidden function of this facility. There are 4 movie theaters that are basically just large banquet halls. Full bar, lots of awesome food, and a great fun atmosphere. This is also the theater that Rocky Horror plays at in Pensacola. So our Rocky at Dawn showing will be in good hands. Plus the whole building is LOADED with little nooks and alleys perfect for absconding with someone for some serious tongue action.

If you could get one celebrity to show up, then be told he/she is not needed - who would it be?

Kanye. I don't think I have to elaborate.

I won't get laughed at if I bring my Pokemon deck right?

No you won't. In fact, if you show up with Pokemon, you will get schooled. I promise. We will have massive gaming going on, the heavy hitters are our retro gaming tournaments and our Magic the Gathering Tourneys. Wizards of the Coast ponied up $1500 in prize support for MAGIC alone. So there should be some serious Hassle the Dorkening action. Also, we have dedicated space for RPG's both tabletop and LARP. And there will be ample space for you to get your game on of any kind with lots of open space and a game lending library.

What other shenanigans do you guys have planned that isn't on the website?

The last thing coming into play is our awesome lineup of panels. They are all seriously inventive and awesome panels. We have some guest speakers trying to work their schedules out, but we will have awesome panels. Two examples of panels are the "Guerrilla Music Promotion" panel being spearheaded by MadHatter from Scrub Club and a The Science of Alcohol panel including free examples of said science. More info to come as they get finalized, but I can tell you this will be an equally awesome part of the event. I think a big thing that is happening is that this event marks the inaugural event of "The Open Source Rhymes Project" something that we haven't gotten a lot of time to talk about yet. But OSRP is such an awesome concept. It's basically like a booster club for nerdcore. Nerd Invasion is a "Proof of Concept" for the principles behind OSRP and you will be hearing a lot about this project in the future.

Go ahead, give me one of those "official" answers with sponsor love and general information.

First off, gotta thank Scrub Club Records. Madhatter and the crew are not human. There is no way they are corporal beings. They have put in some serious hours and dedication to bringing all this together, especially on the Artist communication end. Wizards of the Coast and White Wolf...seriously, how awesome are they. It's amazing that they ponied up so much love for all of our events. And here on the ground I've got to give it up to TBS Comics for pre-sale support and generally helping get the word out about the convention. They're actually sponsoring a sick after party/game tournament after the con close on Saturday too! And these are just some of the names. We have more, and there has been sponsor level support out of just random people who are like "What do you need to make this happen" Much love to everyone who is helping to make this happen. Oh, and NerdRockstar.com helped a little.

This will be the most fun being had at an event anytime for the rest of this year. And it's ridiculously cheap. You can fly here, stay in a suite at our amazing sponsored hotel, get admission and even with the plane ticket spend less than going to a corporate convention in your own town. $10 in advance and get them now, we have already presold WAY more than we expected. We actually have already pre-sold more tickets than our initial goal for attendance for the whole event.

Nerd Invasion takes place November 6th & 7th in Pensacola, FL at the Silver Screen Entertainment Complex. Pre-sale tickets are $10, if you wait until the day of, tickets (if there are any left) will be $15 at the door. The only real question is, will you be there? Oh, and will Z be there?
