It's tough to look into the future without first looking into the past. That's where lessons are learned and mistakes are corrected in order to make the future a better place. Every weekend, we look into the past here on GeekDad so that we can make the future a better place. Really though, here's another week where I didn't see any mistakes. Maybe a couple places where "it's" was used instead of "its" and vice versa. I can't help it. I forget all the time. So without further ado, a look into the past week with the GeekDad Week in Review!
Well, as of Thursday the post of the week wasn't what it is. That changed when Brian McLaughlin's fantastic coverage of the LCROSS Impact on the moon hit not only top billing on the Wired.com front page, but also top in Google News. Those kind of page views can't be ignored. Plus, between Brian, Dana Bostic, and Lonnie Morgan the coverage of LCROSS was outstanding and outdid even the most science and space oriented sites. NASA, you are on notice! Great job guys.
We started off the week with a giant LEGO Voltron and Brad Moon highlighted some of the upcoming events for the National Film Board of Canada, including International Animation Day. The 2009 Ig Nobel Prizes were given out and oh, I can haz breakfast?
Oooh, giant Lite Brite. John Baichtal give a thorough review to the new D&D Eberron Campaign Guide while Jenny Williams scores an interview with Adam and Jamie from Mythbusters. Awesome! Langu teaches your child to be bilingual, Monty Python's Flying Circus turns 40, and the Nerds are getting ready to descend on Pensacola for Nerd Invasion.
VTech's Kidizoom Plus camera gets reviewed while Matt Blum looks at 10 more unanswered questions in geeky movies. John Booth talks with author Jim C. Hines about his books about tough princesses & mermaids and the History Channel decides if dogfighting is possible in space. I sure hope so, cause they did it in Star Wars.
GeekDad HipTrax #38 is delicious. The winner of the mystery box contest was announced (my used UPS box did not win) and Natania Barron reviews the new Steampunk novel Boneshaker. Corrina Lawson reminisces about the olden days of radio and Paul Govan examines the curious rise of internet game reviewer sensation Rebecca Mayes. It's hard out there for a mathlete to keep an eye on the rovin pumpkin.
Nathan Barry grabs his towel and heads to Hitchcon '09, Interactive Comic "The Carrier" comes to the iPhone and are your kids watching enough TV? Really? Are they? It's not what you think. The LCROSS coverage started with Dana Bostic's post giving some suggestions for watching the crash and the upcoming season of Star Wars: Clone Wars is much more than just bounty hunters. Brian McLaughlin then followed up with even more ways to see the LCROSS impact and Instructables is having an Arduino contest.
The day kicked off with a review of Photojojo! the book and then a list of 10 great Halloween books for kids. Big box, small game. It's a pet peeve of many gamers. I prefer a big box, so I can keep my shoes in it. LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary is full of awesome, the Telegraph joins in on the movie plot hole fun and Brian McLaughlin rounds out the LCROSS coverage with a synopsis of the impact.
That's it for this week, stay tuned next week!
