The Global Volcanism Program website seems to be returned from oblivion (huzzah!), and just in time for this week's USGS/SI Weekly Volcanic Activity Report.
Highlights include:
- There has been a significant increase in earthquakes at Kanlaon in the Philippines. The volcano usually produces small explosive eruptions.
- To make life even more fun in the far east reaches of Russia, one of the volcanoes of the Kolokol Group produced a 6 km / 19,700 foot gas-and-steam plume. The Kolokol Group are part of the Kuril Islands south of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
- On the flipside, Kizimen in Kamchatka has seen activity decrease back to background levels, with just normal steam plumes being produced.
- The lava dome at Santa Maria in Guatemala produced small explosive along with the usual fumarolic activity associated with the volcano.
