GeekDad Week in Review

Another week in the books for GeekDad, check out the link-fest that is the GeekDad Week In Review!
Anton Olsens personal bodyguard gets a 600 weapons upgrade

This week seemed a bit quiet to me. Maybe everyone is gearing up for International Talk Like a Pirate Day next week. Stay tuned for more on that. Or maybe it was because Football season just started and every hardcore stat geek was out there readying their fantasy football teams. I know I was. Either way, quiet or loud, another great set of blog posts by the fantastic writers here at GeekDad. Round of applause for everyone (sound of applause.) In other news, GeekDad now can be read in American English and "proper" British English. Fun! Now, the "improper" English version of the GeekDad Week in Review!

Post of the Week

We all read comics right? Right? Well, I know I do and most of my geek minded friends do as well. While the power players will always be well-known (Justice League, X-Men and so on) there are some great comics out there with "Decidedly Different Heroes" as GeekDad Jonathan Liu puts it. And he's right. In his post about six of these lesser known but fantastic comics with very unique heroes, he delves into what makes them great in their own right. As a follow-up to his Seven Comics off the Beaten Path post, this introspective look at some great comics was an easy choice for post of the week.

Saturday & Sunday

Have you finished your mystery box yet? Get on it! GeekTeen John fills in for GeekMom Kathy Ceceri with his look at LEGO Bionicle graphic novels, while John Madden heads to Sheetrock Hills for a conversation with Handy Mandy voice actor Kath Soucie. Oh, and Phun goes to school.

Monday

Lonnie Morgan hops into the Tardis in his head and imagines what geeky headlines we'll see in 2025 while this book may make your child consider becoming a vegetarian and we lament that what the world really needs now is a sequel to Big Trouble in Little China. Finally, don't forget to get your kids in on the Dream Power creative writing contest.

Tuesday

So are you prepared? September is National Preparedness Month. Be prepared. Another GeekTeen gets in on the comic action, with Corrina Lawson handing the reigns over to her daughter for her review of Marvel Comics' Runaways series. Then our post of the week, six cool comics with decidedly different heroes, and Anton Olsen hacks the Nerf Vulcan with his son, who now has a new weapon to batter his friends with. Last, Paul Govan lists out the best family games of the summer.

Wednesday

GeekDad HipTrax #36 dropped like a bowling ball from a high rise, that MC Frontalot track is AWESOME. Then the nines hit with nine facts about Tolkien's Nines and 18 (9+9) things to do on 09.09.09. Did you do them? While celebrating the 40th anniversary of Nerf? Or while wishing computer bugs a happy birthday? No, how about while taking aim with Wii Sports Archery? Maybe while debating about this weeks Great Geek Debate: Pirates vs. Ninja and as a promising start to the British version of GeekDad, it was posted there and went popular on Digg, while the original one did not. Maybe it was the use of "proper" English?

Thursday

Paul Govan's better half shares her input on Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box for the DS, your kids can take a field trip to the Apple store to drool over the new iPod Nano, Matt Blum teaches us how to play Quidditch the Muggle way (running, not flying I assume) and here's nine things you should know about the new animated film 9. Is your child a "shut-down" learner? This book may help.

Friday

We knew any video from They Might be Giants is going to entertain, but the new one educates as well! Don't click this link if you don't want to see a great spoiler for the newest block of Magic: The Gathering cards. Don't. You did didn't you? You can click this one, a great post about 10 classic 1980's computer games that are worth playing - again. Jenny Williams, not a video game expert by her own admission, reviews Brave: A Warrior's Tale for the Wii and, well that's it.

Stay tuned for another great week here at GeekDad!
