August was a very sporty month for U.S. videogame sales.

The NPD Group said Wednesday that the 360 Madden NFL 10, the latest version of Electronic Arts' exclusive NFL football game, topped the sales charts with 928,000 copies sold. The PlayStation 3 version moved an additional 665,000 copies.

And the Wii version? Didn't even make it to the Top 10, but hey, Wii owners have their own kind of sports, the kind you play at resorts. That MotionPlus killer app moved 754,000 units in August.

Overall U.S. videogame sales, at $908 million, dropped by 16% versus August 2008, the sixth month-over-month drop in a row this year.
