He's reinvented John Carpenter's Michael Myers horror franchise with a pair of films including this weekend's Halloween II. Now writer-director Rob Zombie is taking a crack at The Blob. The 1958 sci-fi B movie will mark the rocker/filmmaker's first stab at science fiction.
A fast worker, Zombie starts production on the Blob remake next spring, after he writes the script.
The original Blob, featuring Steve McQueen, hails from the golden age of cheeseball sci-fi with its premise about a chunk of goop from outerspace that eats humans.
Zombie intends to change the blob's appearance, he told Variety: "That gigantic, Jell-O-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now. I have a totally different take, one that’s pretty dark."
Before focusing on a new Blob, Zombie will release a new album in November followed by a holiday tour.
