Beat The Recession Dept: Apparently Harmonix has had some second thoughts about the Beatles Rock Band special edition's $250 price tag, because this just appeared on Amazon: a "special value edition" of the game that includes the old Rock Band instruments.
It's got an MSRP of $160 and an Amazon price of $140 -- much more affordable as an entry-level setup.
I pinged Harmonix to find out which instruments are in there -- the first-gen wired ones or the second-gen wireless -- but from the language on the Amazon listing it seems like it's the former.
Very, very smart idea. Makes buying Beatles Rock Band for someone who doesn't already have plastic instruments a much more palatable prospect, especially if they couldn't give a damn whether they're playing on a replica of Paul McCartney's bass or what.
Oh! While we're speaking of music games, I'd like to pimp game journo Joe Rybicki's fantastic new blog Plastic Axe, in which he aggregates all of the day's news about music games -- downloadable tracks, &c -- into one helpful, very organized place, all written by someone with an otaku's fastidious perfect knowledge of the comings and goings of the genre. This is the blog you didn't know you couldn't live without.
