TopSpin Media CEO Ian Rogers and I addressed the future of music sales, a recent innovative release by David Byrne and Brian Eno, techniques for selling music in the future, in a keynote interview at the NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers) convention.
Once known as the “fourth Beastie Boy” for his work with that group in the ’90s, Rogers went on to work at Nullsoft (Winamp, Gnutella) and captain Yahoo Music before leaving in April 2008 to join Topspin Media, which helps artists circumvent the traditional label system to sell directly to fans, often using widgets, deluxe box sets and other formerly unorthodox strategies.
