Ironic Art Geek Ready for His 15 Minutes

Artist Howard Steenwyk has created a new line of capitalism inspired T-shirts open to interpretation by the general public, and he’s giving some away to you.

Andy Warhol once said, “An artist is someone who produces things that people don’t need to have but that he – for some reason – thinks it would be a good idea to give them.”

Howard Steenwyk is an artist who says, “when I grow up I want to be Andy Warhol.” Based on Howard’s latest endeavor, he’s on his way to becoming just that, or just another creative T-shirt monger. It will be up to us to decide. Howard is a true art geek, with a successful career as a graphic designer behind him and his kids nearly out of the house he’s decided to take his cynicism to the streets with his line of capitalism based T-shirts. While art on shirts and certainly political based art on shirts is not a new concept, Howard is avoiding the conflict and letting you decide for yourselves.

“I make the images and don’t always know what they mean. Whats important is what they mean to you.”

Howard, in a marriage of marketing and capitalism, would like to give away some of his wares. That is, you get free shirts and tell your friends who then buy shirts. For the sake of his warehouse and the guy loading the truck, he’s limited the free shirts to six. Here’s what you need to do to get one. Go to his website and check out the shirt designs. Then email me with your interpretation of your favorite design. The more creative, the better. Six winners will be picked and your information will be passed on to marketing. That’s it. Pretty easy. All for capitalism.
