GeekDad HipTrax
We don’t get many opportunities to entertain around the ol’ HipTrax podcast. It’s typically just Ken and me, two old dudes gabbing about the nerdy music. In our custom-embroidered HipTrax smoking jackets. We are, if nothing else, fancy.
Thankfully, this edition of the show features some new blood in the form of “Mister” Marty Allen and “Paradise” Dan Brennan of the world’s premiere sock puppet rock band Uncle Monsterface. These representatives of industrial monolith Monsterface Industries dropped by to talk about the upcoming premiere of the new video/performance piece for their single “Mashed Potato vs. Vampire” and a variety of other brands of fine, sock-puppet-y goodness.
“Mashed Potato vs. Vampire” by Uncle Monsterface
From their exemplary 2008 release This is An Adventure, “Mashed Potato vs. Vampire” is a musical meditation on the lingering animosity between tubers and the undead. It is also an excellent introduction to the work of an amazingly eclectic (and wicked talented) band. NYC-area geeks are encouraged to attend the “Mashed Potato vs. Vampire” premiere event this Saturday, June 6th at The Tank for a taste of the group’s unique, fully immersive on-stage antics.
“The Blood of a Prince” by Harry and the Potters
From the conceptual hardcore EP Scarred for Life, this track is not your typical Potters fare. It is, however, a genuinely different take on their characteristic reflections on the Harry Potter mythos. While the original 7″ is long out of print, digital versions of this EP – in all its Dan Brennan-produced glory – are still readily available. All three of the release’s songs are also included on the forthcoming Harry and the Potters career retrospective Priori Incantatem.

The HipTrax theme song was crafted with pride by Snake Eyes, who is far more concerned with the battle raging between cream corn and werewolves.
