The results from the first day of practice for the inaugural motorcycle green grand prix are coming in from the Isle of Man, and so far the quickest bike has lapped the 37.7-mile course at an average speed of almost 85 mph.
Team Agni was the first of the 10 teams to hit the track for Tuesday's practice session, and rider Rob Barber lapped the the 37.7-mile course in 26 minutes and 41 seconds to lead the top-tier pro class. That works out to an average speed of 84.81 mph. The bike, based on a Suzuki GSX-R600 and pictured above, hit a top speed of 102 mph. For the sake of comparison, a gasoline-fueled 600cc sportbike can complete in the course in a little more than 18 minutes and reach 120 mph or more.
Thomas Montanto rode the Mission One electric bike around the super-twisty circuit in 33:45 for an average speed of 67.68 mph. Team XXL was 19 seconds behind. Team Brammo Best Buy rounded out the top five in the pro class, with rider Roy Richardson finishing 5 seconds ahead of teammate Mark Buckley with a time of 35:47.
The open class bikes were a bit slower, with ManTTx Racing posting the best time of 32:01 aboard a Ducati 748R converted to electric power.
