There is a TV v demographic that I like to call, "people who like to watch stuff blow up." That is the exact demographic The Discovery Channel will be going for with their new three part series Weaponizers. Remember the re-make of Death Race? It's like that, except good. And the plot makes sense. And there aren't any criminals. Let's just focus on the modded out cars blowing stuff and each other up.
Weaponizers promises to be a all out drool fest of destruction, not to mention that it's the single show I can think of that's come on in recent times that utilizes the word "Carmageddon." Think if the video game Twisted Metal was real life. The show pits two teams of master builders and destruction enthusiasts against each other for a two round competition. The teams will be creating remote controlled vehicles of destruction out of ordinary vehicles, such as muscle cars and even an ice cream truck. I'd like to see what they could do with something like a Prius or a Camry as not all of us have muscle cars to modify. Some of us wouldn't mind having a machine gun mounted on the roof of our family sedan. That's the other great thing about this program, live ammunition. That's right, not only will they be armoring these vehicles beyond recognition, but they get to use live ammo in the process.
As for the rounds, the first round consists of a challenge based objective such as destroying or defending a stationary target. The second round will probably be a bit more entertaining, as the teams will be directly competing against each other in an all out "Carmageddon" where only one vehicle will be left standing.
Currently the show is slated for three episodes, and I'm guessing that if enough fathers let their boys stay up just a bit late on Monday night (as I will) The Discovery Channel will bring it back for a couple more. I think I can speak for most men (and a good sub-section of women) that agree that a show about stuff getting destroyed really never gets old.
Check out some of the show here and here.
Hosted by Rusty Oliver, Andrew McLaren, Jimmy Shine, and a gun happy guy named Cowboy; Weaponizers premiers Monday night at 9pm EST on the Discovery Channel.
