Coming to your local PBS station in the fall of 2010, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That. The new television show is currently in production for 40 half-hour episodes for the first season. The show will feature six-year-old Sally and Nick, best friends and next door neighbors. The Cat in the Hat will transport them to all corners of the globe in his Thinga-ma-jigger to make natural science discoveries. Thing One and Thing Two will be helping (?) the Cat in the Hat. Martin Short will supply the voice for The Cat in the Hat.

I loved The Cat in the Hat when I was learning to read. My GeekSon loves the book. But it's more for the crazy things the Cat does. I'm not sure I see the Cat being a good leader on trips for science discoveries. I remember from The Cat in the Hat Comes Back that the Cat had a distinct problem with the science of spot removal. Does The Cat in the Hat know a lot about anything?

The new television series will be based on The Cat in the Hat Learning Library books. This was the first I had heard about it. I missed Clam-I-Am, Oh Say Can You Say What's the Weather Today?, There's No Place Like Space, There's a Map on My Lap! and the others in this series. The Cat in the Hat Learning Library series did not come out until 1998, forty years after the Cat first arrived on the scene. Apparently, the Cat in the Hat got some good education after his earlier misadventures.

We will have to wait a while to see if our kids will like this new show. While I am waiting I might try out some of The Cat in the Hat Learning Library books.
