Dragon Quest Wars, a strategy game, will be the first release from Square Enix on the DSiWare downloadable software service for Nintendo's new portable, the publisher said Monday.

Developed by Intelligent Systems, the creator of Nintendo's first-party strategy games Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, the downloadable game will use the characters and settings from Square Enix's popular role-playing game franchise with "board game battle" gameplay. One to four players can battle via local or online multiplayer modes.

The game will be released in Japan this June for 500 DSi Points (about $5); no worldwide release plans have been announced.
