What's in the box for the U.S. release of the new Nintendo DSi?
Nintendo's latest portable gaming system, which includes a camera and music functionality as well as the ability to download "DSiWare" applications and games, will hit stores on Sunday, April 5. We've got ours, and here's what you can expect to find inside the box.
The U.S. box is at the top, with the Japanese box below. Note that the U.S. box is much thicker. I wonder why that is. Note also the sticker that offers free DSiWare games just for buying the $170 unit. Nintendo will give every DSi owner who logs into the online DSi Shop 1000 free Nintendo Points, worth $10, to buy apps and games with.
The shop will go live on April 5, so we won't be able to test it out and tell you which games you should spend your 1000 points on until then.
The first thing you see inside the box is, of course, a Quick Start Guide. Because actually reading the instruction manual for anything, these days, is to get off to a very slow start. Hey, speaking of which:
Oh, that's why the box is like an inch thicker: Because the full Operations Manual that comes with this thing is in eleventy million different languages. Okay,* three*. But it's still a whopping 330 pages of text that nobody on Earth is ever going to read.
Underneath the pile of books sits the thing you actually bought, the Nintendo DSi and its assorted accessories.
Hey, there's the trusty AC adapter underneath the cardboard. Yes, it is differently shaped, and larger, than the plug for the DS Lite. No, I don't know why.
The DSi. No, this one is not made out of chocolate.
We took an in-depth look at the Japanese DSi last year, and there's not much more to say about the device until the U.S. DSi Shop channel opens up on April 5. Since there is a different shopping channel for each region, this means I will now have to juggle two DS consoles to play all of my games. What fun!
