mvc2logoMarvel Vs Capcom 2 is seeing a re-release on all the latest home consoles, with the exception of Nintendo's Wii. Bad news for Wii owners, but an unavoidable reality of the complex licensing situation surrounding the game, according to Capcom's Christian Svensson.

"This is a downloadable play, not a retail play. We don't actually have any retail rights on this project. And there's no way to get anywhere near the Wiiware filesize limit here," Svensson wrote, responding to a question in Capcom's forums on why Wii owners are left in the cold.

Moments later, another fan asked if it would be possible to release this game on the Virtual Console, citing the relatively large Nintendo 64 games it supports. Svensson responds in the negative: "If I recall, the largest N64 game ever was 32MBytes (not be confused with Mbits)... so no."
