Video: Undead Combat in Burn Zombie Burn

In case this week’s release of Resident Evil 5 doesn’t satiate your need to slay hordes of the undead, developer doublesix has released two gameplay videos demonstrating their take on zombie combat in the upcoming Burn Zombie Burn.

As per the game’s title, BZB adds extremely flammable zombies to the traditional Robotron-esque, semi-overhead, run and shoot gameplay mechanic.

Alongside the clip, the developer sent along the following description:

This is a splitscreen co-op defense mode playthrough on Drive-In. In this mode you have to protect Daisy, Bruce’s girlfriend, from the zombie horde. Flaming zombies also deposit health for Daisy, so keeping her safe and scoring high are mutually exclusive objectives. This makes Defense quite challenging. In multiplayer you can also play as Bruno, Bruce’s brother. Burn Zombie Burn only supports offline splitscreen multiplayer.

This second bit of footage demonstrates the game’s "Zombie Vision" mode.

It’s difficult to grasp the gameplay difference in this second clip purely from watching the film, so doublesix explains this one as well:

This is a play-through of Suburbia using one of the game’s "Vision Modes". This particular one renders the game in black, white and red. So all the blood from smashing zombies apart is shown rather distinctively. Vision Modes are unlocked by attaining Silver Medals. It’s worth clarifying that the game’s mechanics don’t operate any differently on the various vision modes.

Perhaps it’s wishful thinking to believe this game has serious Zombies Ate My Neighbors undertones, but after the disappointing release of Monster Madness I’m not holding my breath hoping for a game that can replicate that long lost LucasArts classic.

Burn Zombie Burn is scheduled for release on the PlayStation Network on March 26.
